Configuring Outlook Express for Windows 9x/Me/2000/XP (Faculty and Staff)
- Open Outlook Express
- Click on the Tools menu and then click Accounts....
- Click the Add button and then click Mail....
- Enter your name in the Display Name field, and click Next.
- Enter your University of Akron email address in the format UAnetID@uakron.edu in the Email address: field, and click Next.
- Using the following settings, select the type of Incoming Mail Server from the drop-down list and enter the Incoming and Outgoing email server addresses, and click Next.
- Enter your UAnetID in the Account Name field. Enter your password in the Password field, and click Next.
- Click Finish to complete email setup. DO NOT close the Internet Accounts window.
- Highlight the exchange.uanet.edu entry in the accounts pane, and click Properties.
- Click the Servers tab, and check the box next to My server requires authentication.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP), check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
- Under Incoming mail (IMAP), check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL). The port number will change to 993.
- Click OK on the exchange.uanet.edu Properties window.
- Click Close on the Internet Accounts window.

Configuring Windows Mail for Windows Vista (Faculty and Staff)
Note: Windows Mail has been superseded by Windows Live Mail. Therefore, the following instructions may no longer be valid. Please use a University-supported email client and refer to the appropriate setup instructions in the Email section.
- First, begin by opening windows mail. Click the start button, then click E-Mail
- Second, click on Tools and then Accounts
- Third, click on add
- Next click E-Mail
- Enter in your display name, for instance, your name.
- Next, enter in your email address in the format UAnetID@uakron.edu.
- Next for Faculty/Staff, pick
- Next, the install wizard will ask you for your ID and password. This will be your UAnetID and password. Do not include @uakron.edu
- Click Finish. Your UA folders will be displayed as seen in the image below.

Configuring Windows Live Mail for Windows Vista/7 (Faculty and Staff)
- Open Windows Live Mail.
- Click the Accounts tab.
- Click the Email button.
- Enter your University of Akron email address in the format UAnetID@uakron.edu in the Email address: field.
- Enter your UAnetID password in the Password: field.
- Enter your name in the Display name for your sent messages: field.
- Check the box next to Manually configure server settings, and click next.
- Using the following settings, configure the appropriate server settings, and click Next.
- Click Finish to complete email setup.
Incoming server information: - Server Type: IMAP - Server address: exchange.uanet.edu - Check the box next to Require a secure connection (SSL). Changing Outlook Express Email Account Passwords
- Open Outlook Express
- From 'Tool' menu, select accounts
- Select the 'Mail' tab. Select the account for which the password needs changed. Click 'Properties.'
- Select the 'Servers' tab. In the 'Password' box, replace the old password with the new password.
- Click 'Apply'
- Click 'OK'
Changing Windows Mail Email Account Passwords
- Open Windows Mail
- Select the Tools Menu, Select Accounts
- Select Your Email account, and click Properties
- Click the servers tab, your password is in the middle of the page
- Click Apply
- Click OK
