Introduction
- Students / Faculty and Staff should connect to rootown from the steps listed. If you are a guest of the university, you should connect with uaguest
Connecting The iPhone to the wireless network
NOTE: You must have the iPhone 2.0 firmware to connect to rootown
- Tap Settings
- Tap Wi-Fi
- Make sure Wi-Fi is set to On
- Under Choose a Network, tap Other
- In the Name field, type rootown
- Tap Security
- Select WPA2 Enterprise
- Tap Other network
- Enter your UAnetID and password in the username and password fields
- Tap Join
NOTE: If you have joined the "uaguest" network before this setup and it keeps connecting to it, find the network under Settings > Wi-Fi, click on the arrow next to the network, and select "Forget This Network." This will drop the profile for "uaguest" and use your new rootown one.
Connecting the iPhone to your email
For Students
- Tap Settings
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Tap Add Account
- Tap Other
- Enter your name, email address, and email password
- Tap Save
- Tap IMAP
- Enter the following information:
- Incoming Mail Server
- Host Name: imap.uakron.edu
- User Name: enter your UAnetID
- Outgoing Mail Server
- Host Name: smtp.uakron.edu
- Incoming Mail Server
- Tap Save
- It will warn you that it is unable to connect using SSL. When asked to try setting up without SSL, tap Yes (You may need to do this twice)
For Faculty
NOTE: You must have the iPhone 2.0 software to connect to the exchange server
- Tap Settings
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Tap Add Account
- Tap Microsoft Exchange
- Enter your email address
- Enter your username in the following format:
- UANET\uanetid
- For example, if your UAnetID is zippy, you would enter UANET\zippy
- Enter your email password
- Tap Next
- If prompted for a Server, enter exchange.uanet.edu
- Click Next
- Click Save
Connect to VPN
- Set VPN to PPTP
- Server - vpn.uakron.edu
- Account - UAnetID
- RSA Secure ID - OFF
- Password - UAnetID's Password
- Encryption - Auto
- Send All Traffic - ON
