Getting Started

What is a wiki?

A wiki is a type of website that allows users to easily add, remove, or otherwise edit and change most available content, sometimes without the need for registration. This ease of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective tool for collaborative writing. The term wiki can also refer to the collaborative software itself (wiki engine) that facilitates the operation of such a website[1]

Why would we want anyone to edit the pages?

Not everyone will be able to edit the pages. By default, you have to sign up for an account to even look at the pages. Eventually editing will be done via peer-review. The edits will be discussed on the talk pages for certain articles, and then changes will eventually be agreed upon.

How do I use the wiki?

The wiki is easy to use. If you are a support staff, most of your time will be in the HOWTO sections. These sections contain step-by-step information on how to solve/troubleshoot the problems that users might call in about.

Searching the wiki is easy. With the use of the search text box on the left side of every page. You can search through the entire wiki database of articles. As you start typing, the AJAX features will start to search for articles instantly. Hit the enter key to perform a search, or click on the GO button to jump to the exact article title.

While editing is restricted to only certain people, editing is, in fact, easy. You do not need to know HTML or any kind of CSS. The wiki-text markup is simple and easy. Please see the WikiMedia Editing Guide for information on how to use the wiki-text to its fullest potential.

The discussion feature is critical to ensuring that the proper input is given in the correct place for the wiki. To participate in the discussion of the nodes, simple click on the "discussion" tab, and then the "+" sign right next to it. You can then add or reply to comments. Anyone with an account on the wiki can participate in the discussions.

File Uploading

What kind of files can I upload?

While the file upload feature is only used by editors. The filetypes are that can be uploaded are restricted for security reasons. Image files, and document files are the only allowed filetypes.
