ZOMG!!!!! Inappropriate edit.

The University of Akron provides access to the Internet via wireless technology. If you have a laptop with a wireless card that supports LEAP authentication then you can connect to the network from anywhere on campus.

Wireless Setup

Wireless setup for your laptops can be done at any of the following locations.

  • Lincoln Building room 103
  • Bierce Library room 52c
  • Bierce Library room 69

What cards are supported?

The following wireless cards/chipsets are provide support for LEAP authentication

  • Airport
  • Atheros - (some restrictions apply)
  • Broadcom
  • Cisco Aironet
  • Dell
  • Intel Proset

What operating systems are supported?

The following operating systems can be used with the wireless network

  • Linux (Kernel 2.6.14 or better)
  • Mac OSX
  • Windows (98 or better)

Which distribution of Linux has more support?

While Gentoo, or Slackware is the distribution of choice by some of our technicians. All that we require are the kernel sources and then the drivers can be compiled for your distribution of choice, as long as you have one of the supported cards/chipsets listed about, we can get you on the network.
