Converted E-Mail Accounts

The following information pretains to E-Mail accounts that have been converted from a Student to a Staff (GMail to Exchange); or from a Staff to a Student (Excahnge to GMail). These circumstances do not apply to everyone, and if they apply to your account you will know it.

From GMail to Exchange

When an account is converted from GMail to Exchange, the email account in the GMail system will still exist. It is important to have the e-mail from that account forwarded to your Exchange account.

Forwarding Webmail Google Apps Student E-Mail

Mail forwarding is no longer set up using the ITS administration page, it will now be administered by the Google Apps Mail.
To set up mail forwarding

  1. Log into
  2. Click /Select Settings in the upper right corner
  3. Click/Select Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  4. Click/Select Forward a copy of incoming mail to email address and
  5. Enter the forwarding mail address into the email address field
    • You can select an action for managing the email on the Google Apps server
      ”keep The University of Akron Mail’s copy in the Inbox” is the default setting
  6. Click/Select Save Changes


Any mail which was available in the UA System has been moved to the Exchange account, but mail which is only on the GMail account may not have been moved.

To move the mail over to the Exchange account you can set up gmail as an imap client in outlook, this will allow a drag and drop feature to the email accounts for moving the mail. For help adding an imap client in Outlook please click here.

From Exchange to Gmail

When an account is converted from Exchange to GMail, the email that was on the Exchange system will be migrated to the GMail account.
