Ubuntu VPN

Connecting to the University's VPN is possible using Ubuntu 8.10 with VPNC and Network Manager. Follow these steps to get it running:


1. We need VPNC and the plugin for Network Manager installed. Go to System >> Administration >> Synaptics Package Manager.
2. Enter your root username password to proceed.
3. Do a search for 'vpnc' and three options should show.
4. Mark 'vpnc' and 'network-manager-vpnc' for installation and click Apply at the top.
5. Right click the Networking icon and go to the Edit Connections Options.
6. Select the VPN tab and click the Add button.
7. Click the create button when the wizard appears.
8. Name the connection and enter the following settings:
Gateway: 130.101.72.100
Group Name: Zipnet
User Password: Your UAnetID password
Group Password: zippy
User Name: Your UAnetID
Domain: Leave Blank
9.Click Ok and close it out.
10.Left click the VPN icon and find your newly created connection. Click always allow twice.
11. It should now connect. Edit your profile when your ID password changes.

NOTE: You can leave all other settings at their default in the configuration. Everything IS case sensitive.
