Login Issues

There are two basic requirements for logging into Springboard at the University of Akron:

  • You must have a valid and active staff or student ID with no administrative holds
  • The computer and web browser you are using must meet some requirements.

Account Requirements

You must have either a staff or student account with the University of Akron to login. Guest accounts do not allow access. If you do not have an account, have a guest account, or need to determine if you have a hold on your account, contact the ZipSupport Center. The following are the most common reasons for not being able to login and their resolutions:

  • Incorrect or expired password: login to https://gozips.uakron.edu to confirm your password. The system will automatically alert you if your password has expired and allow you to change it. Otherwise, call the ZipSupport Center to have your password reset (this cannot be done via email for security reasons).
  • Using the wrong login information: Be sure to use your UANet ID just like you would for logging in to Zipline or your email.
  • Browser settings need to be reset: Follow instructions here.
  • Browser history and cache needs to be cleared: Follow instructions here
  • Account has holds that prevent login: If you are aware of what hold(s) you might have, contact the appropriate office to determine what actions must be taken to remove it. In general, academic holds are handled by advisors, administrative holds by the Registrar (call 330/972-8300), and financial holds by the Office of Student Accounts (call 330/972-5100). If you do not know, contact the ZipSupport Center.

This image shows a successful test of the browser checker: https://springboard.uakron.edu/d2l/tools/system_check/systemcheck.asp?ou=6605. If your browser fails to meet any requirement, the display will show "failed" in red to indicate a failed check.

  • JavaScript Check:

If your browser fails the JavaScript check, you may need to download and install Java on your computer. Visit http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and look for the download button. Save the file to your computer and after it downloads, run the program to install Java. This should then allow you to run Java on your computer.

  • Browser Check: If you fail this check, download the latest version of a supported browser. Other browsers may be partially functional but support cannot be guaranteed.
  • Cookies Check: If you fail this check, instructions for enabling cookies can be found here.
  • Display Check: If you fail this check, change your display resolution to at least 1024 x 768 and make sure that at least "thousands" of colors are being displayed.

Other Considerations

Pop-up Blockers

The primary issues with Pop-Up Blockers are the inability to open Word documents in Content and the inability to use the Compose button in Springboard! Email and Discussions. Pop-Up Blockers are found in many types of software including: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, MSN Toolbar, Windows Firewall, Safari Preferences, Leopard Preferences, McAfee, Norton Anti-Virus. If any of this software is installed on your computer you may need to turn off Pop-Up Blockers in each of them. For instructions on disabling the most popular blockers for Springboard pages, click here.

Adding Springboard as a "Trusted Site"

This will allow Springboard pages to bypass most security issues and will also allow popups:

1. Open up Internet Explorer

2. Click on Tools in the upper right area of the window

3. Select Pop-up Blocker in the dropdown menu

4. Click Pop-up Blocker Settings; a window should popup (see illustration below)

5. Enter D2L trusted site URL (see above), clicking Add after each

6. Click Close to save your work
