OBEN (Ohio Broadband Educational Network)</b> is the university’s name for the discounted Road Runner high speed connection offered by Time Warner and the University of Akron that provides service for Full time staff, full or part-time faculty, and full or part-time students.

OBEN Information
For Students, the modem is $60 and you must pay $29.95 per month but up front for the semester. $195 total for the first semester (five months for Fall/Spring). If you are just continuing payment, it is $135 for semester.
• For Full-time faculty, there is no deposit, and the payments come directly from your paycheck, which $29.95per month.
• For Part-time faculty, you must pay $60 for the modem and $29.95 per month but up front for the semester. $195 total for the semester.
• Throughput is 7Mbits down 512k up
• RoadRunner Turbo (15mbit down and 768k up) is available through OBEN for an additional $9.95/month. To sign up for "Turbo" you must contact Time Warner at 877-772-2253 (You will receive a monthly bill from Time Warner Cable for this extra charge)

- Time Warner Cable (877-772-2253) for connection related issues. (Note: If you contact TWC, ensure that you inform the support personnel that you are calling regarding a technical issue).
How to Sign-Up Online
| NOTE: If you do not have cable tv (or other active cable connection) you will need an installation appointment |
1) Go to the following website:
http://oben.uakron.edu
2) Log in on the left side of the screen with your UAnet ID and password. 
3) Then click “Enter Address >>” and enter your address to see if you are within the Road Runner area. If you are, please continue to step #4.
4) Then under available service, click Sign-Up Now.
5) Then click “Let’s Begin” and read all of the agreements with OBEN. At the bottom of each page, click “I agree”.
6) Once you are finished, you should see “Proceed”. Click on “Proceed”.
7) It will ask you if you already a Road Runner customer (existing customer) or a new customer. Click the “Submit” button.
8) Click “OK” if the statement is correct.
9) Then you can pay online or on the phone (330-972-5308) or in person at Computer Solutions, which is located on the top floor of the Student Union building.
10) You can pick up modem either at Computer Solutions, which located on the top floor of the Student Union building.
11) If you do not need an installation, go home and install your kit.
12) If you need to have OBEN installed at your house, Time Warner will call you for an installation date. If your house is cable ready and you want an outlet installed somewhere else in the house, you must pay $19.95 for installation. If your house is not cable ready, the installation is free. Make sure if you are renting, that you have written permission from you landlord.
13) The modem will be turned on and activated within 48 hrs.
Change of address
If you are a current OBEN customer but are changing your address, you will need to log in to http://oben.uakron.edu Use your [UAnetID] and password. (These should be the same that you use to log into zipline) After logging on, there is a link you can use to change your address.
