Exchange Server

The University of Akron currently uses Microsoft Exchange Server 2007[1] on campus for Faculty/Staff Email.

A web-based version is available @ https://exchange.uanet.edu[2].

Client based connections are also fully supported.

Exchange Setup using Microsoft Outlook

These instructions are for configuring Outlook the first time a user opens Outlook. If you need to configure Outlook after this wizard has been completed you can view many of the same options by exiting outlook and clicking on the “Mail” icon in the control panel.

1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2003 and the Outlook 2003 Startup Screen Appears
2. Click on “Next”
3. The next screen asks if you would like to configure outlook, “Yes” should be selected then, click on “Next”
4. Select “Microsoft Exchange Server”
5. Click on “Next”
6. In the box next to “Microsoft Exchange server:” type in uanet.edu
7. In the box next to “User Name:” type in your UAnet ID.

9. Click on “Check Name” .
   • After you click "Check Name" outlook will find the appropriate Exchange server for your account and update your account name to its full length.
10. Your name should appear in the field next to “User Name:” as shown above. Click on “Next”
11. Click on “Finish”

Exchange Setup using Microsoft Outlook Express

1. Outlook Express will open a window that says "Internet connection wizard" at the top
2. For the field that states display name please type in your name and hit the next button
3. Next the field for e-mail address will come up, please type in your university e-mail address in the format "your_UAnetID@uakron.edu and click on next button
4. At the top of this window you will see a drop down menu that has the options "POP3", "IMAP", and "HTTP" please select "IMAP". In the next field labeled incoming mail server type in imap.uakron.edu and in the last field labeled outgoing mail server type in smtp.uakron.edu. Click the next button
5. For account name type in your UANetID, and in the password field type in your UANetID Password. Make sure the box for secure password authentication is unchecked.
6. Click the next button, then the finish button and your email will be setup.

Other Exchange Compatible Mail Clients

If you are using another mail program that is capable of working with an exchange account, you will need to consult documentation available to your particular client. You should initially try to use 'uanet.edu' as the email server and your UAnet ID as the account name. Some clients will work by leveraging the features of the web interface (OWA - Outlook Web Access), in this case you will want to use 'https://exchange.uanet.edu' as the server.
