Dynamic Host Client Protocol is a way to assign IP addresses without needing the user to configure it. Some home networks may be assigned their own Private IP Address which may start with a class A (10.X.X.X), class B, or more commonly class C (192.168.X.X). These IP addresses will not connect you to the University network and will need to utilize the instructions below.

  1. Click on Start Button
  2. Click on Control Panel on the right side of the Menu
  3. Double click on Network Connections in the Control Panel Window
  4. Right Click on Local Area Connection and select Properties
  5. Click on Internet Protocol and then click on the button that says Properties
  6. Then select the options of obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically
  7. You are finished!


2000

  1. Click the Start Button
  2. Then go to Settings and click on Control Panel
  3. Double click on Network and Dial-Up Connections
  4. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties
  5. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the button that says Properties
  6. Then select the option to obtain IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically
  7. You are finished!

  1. Click the Start Button
  2. Then go to Settings and click on Control Panel
  3. Double click on Network
  4. Click on TCP/IP (your type of Ethernet card)
  5. Click on the button that says Properties.
  6. Go under the IP Address tab
  7. Select to obtain an IP address automatically
  8. Go under WINS Configuration tab
  9. Select Use DHCP for WINS Resolution
  10. Go under Gateway tab
  11. Delete any installed gateways
  12. Go to DNS Configuration tab
  13. Select Disable DNS
  14. You are finished!
