Dynamic Host Client Protocol is a way to assign IP addresses without needing the user to configure it. Some home networks may be assigned their own Private IP Address which may start with a class A (10.X.X.X), class B, or more commonly class C (192.168.X.X). These IP addresses will not connect you to the University network and will need to utilize the instructions below.

- Click on Start Button
- Click on Control Panel on the right side of the Menu
- Double click on Network Connections in the Control Panel Window
- Right Click on Local Area Connection and select Properties
- Click on Internet Protocol and then click on the button that says Properties
- Then select the options of obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically
- You are finished!
2000
- Click the Start Button
- Then go to Settings and click on Control Panel
- Double click on Network and Dial-Up Connections
- Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties
- Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the button that says Properties
- Then select the option to obtain IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically
- You are finished!

- Click the Start Button
- Then go to Settings and click on Control Panel
- Double click on Network
- Click on TCP/IP (your type of Ethernet card)
- Click on the button that says Properties.
- Go under the IP Address tab
- Select to obtain an IP address automatically
- Go under WINS Configuration tab
- Select Use DHCP for WINS Resolution
- Go under Gateway tab
- Delete any installed gateways
- Go to DNS Configuration tab
- Select Disable DNS
- You are finished!
