Errors with cswGina
- In case of a failed install of a Cisco utility, follow these simple steps to repair the file.
- After installing the Cisco ACU software and rebooting the computer a .dll error results and restarting the computer is the only option.
- Error: The Logon User Interface DLL cswGina failed to load.
To fix:
- Reboot the computer in "safe mode." If you do not know how to restart in safe mode, hold the key "F8" before the computer loads Windows. In the resulting menu, select "Safe Mode."
- Open a command window by selecting "Run" from the Start menu and typing "command" in the box. Press Enter
- For Windows XP, type "cd c:\windows\system32"
- For Windows 2000, type "cd c:\winnt\system32"
- Press Enter.
- Type "copy msgina.dll cswgina.dll"
- In the Start menu, select "Run" and type "regedit" in the resulting box and press Enter.
- Regedit works like Windows Explorer with a folder hierarchy structure. Open each of these folders on the left in this order:
- LocalMachine\software\microsoft\windowsnt\current version\winlogon
- Change the ginadll key value to cswgina.dll.
- Reboot.
While this may work, in most cases you will have to reinstall the Cisco software.
