Cisco wireless cards are the oldest supported card on the University of Akron wireless network. In fact, the Cisco company is so well established in networking that the University of Akron offers several courses in Cisco training. Almost all of the Cisco cards used on campus are external PCMCIA cards. These cards stick out of laptops like an expansion card. The two most popular cards are either a Cisco 340 or Cisco 350.

Setting up Cisco Wireless Cards for the University of Akron
- After the installer completes there will be a green or light grey icon in your system tray, right click this icon and select "Launch Aironet Client Utility" from the popup menu.
- When the utility opens, click the "Profile Manager" button and we can begin setting up a new profile for when you use your wireless card on the University of Akron's campus.
- Now left click the "Add" button and type "UAnet" in the prompt box. Then click the "OK" button.
- Now we will be editing the "System Parameters" tab of the box that opens. It will list your computer's name in the "Client Name:" box. Leave this alone as each machine will generate a unique client name.
- Below that is "SSID1;" Here we will enter tsunami.
- After that, we will select the "Network Security" tab in the top right of this window.
- Left click the "LEAP" setting, then click the "Configure LEAP..." button.
- In the new window that pops up, select the "Use saved User Name and Password" option.
- In the "User Name:" prompt enter your uanetID.
- In the password box, enter the same password you use for your campus email.
- Enter the password once again in the "Confirm Password" box.
- We will be leaving the "Domain" box empty.
- If anything is written in the "Domain" box, clear it.
- Click the "OK" button and it will close the window and return you to the previous window we were just working in.
- Click the "OK" button again in the next window and it will take you back to the Aironet Client Utility.
- Close the client utility by left clicking the X in the top right of the window. In a few moment a "LEAP Authentication" window will pop up. Let it run without clicking anything in it, and it will close itself.
